Longest Day Games Supporting the Fight Against Alzheimer's

The ACBL has expanded the Longest Day games to the entire week of the Summer Solstice (June 17-23, 2019). Unit 550 and the SCBC will be hosting several games to raise money to support Alzheimer's disease, care and research. All table fees collected will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Of course, players can also donate on their own, either at the game or online at SCBC Longest Day.

Longest Day Games supporting the Alzheimer's Association are shown below. All these games have upgraded points!

  • 6/19 Wednesday Evening: 99er
  • 6/20 Thursday AM: Open
  • 6/21 Friday AM: Open
  • 6/22 Saturday AM: Open

Contact Ken at pasa49@pacbell.net if you need a partner for any of these games.

Thursday Changes

To encourage more participation at the Thursday AM game, the following monthly schedule begins in June:

  • 1st Thursday: Open Game
  • 2nd Thursday: Mentor-Mentee Game
  • 3rd Thursday: Open Game
  • 4th Thursday: Swiss

Contact Ken at pasa49@pacbell.net if you need a Mentor for the Mentor-Mentee games or Swiss teammates. All games begin at 10:30A.

Mentor-Mentee Game conditions:

  • Two players with more than 750 each may not play together;
  • Regular partnerships with less than 750 each may play together;
  • Any Mentor may play with any Mentee, provided the Mentee has less than 750.

Patience & Teaching

Trying to teach or give advice during a game is not effective and might even be seen as a violation of ACBL rules (see Law 74.A.2, Etiquette of Word and Action: A player should carefully avoid any remark or action that might cause annoyance or embarrassment to another player or might interfere with the enjoyment of the game.)

  • Don't teach at the table; waiting until the game is over is much more effective
  • Giving advice during the game is bad strategy, typically unwanted and could easily be wrong
  • Talking about a board/result often reaveals details of the board to other players
  • Even well-meaning advice might be taken as criticism, which is unethical, rude and a violation of the Laws

Who We Are: We are seven bridge clubs authorized within Unit 550. We host ACBL-sanctioned bridge games every day at the SCBC. Our goal is to give you the best bridge playing environment.

Games: There are daily and evening games open to players of all levels with some games reserved for novice and/or intermediate players. Some games feature an optional meal at a nominal cost. If you need information about a game or a partner, please contact any one of us listed below, call us at the SCBC, or send us an email at scbc.director@gmail.com.
