Jan Winham is running a Pro-Am Swiss on Monday evening, March 4, to help players get ready for the Rising Stars Sectional Sunday Swiss. The session starts with a potluck at 6PM, provided by the "Am" players.
All players under 500 points are "Am" for this game. You can form your own team or you can have Jan pair you with Pros. Please sign up on the sheet provided at the SCBC. If you have any questions, e-mail Jan at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the bridge center at 465-1102.
Calling all "Pros": Please sign up at the SCBC to help our 499ers perform well at the Rising Stars sectional.
Swiss and Team games are similar to rubber bridge in their scoring. The strategy is somewhat different than duplicate; check-out a summary of the strategy.
Are you looking for bridge practice with others at your level? Would you like to earn some masterpoints in a fun environment? The Thursday evening Newcomer game is right for you!
Starting March 7th, the Newcomer Game is scheduled every Thursday evening 6PM-8PM. The game is limited to players with 0-5 masterpoints. You don't have to be a member of the ACBL to play. You don't need a partner; just show up. Your first game is FREE! After that, the table fee is only $5 per player.
Although masterpoints are awarded, the "relaxed" atmosphere emphasizes learning and enjoyment of our great game. Following the game, the director will be happy to review a couple of interesting hands and answer questions using hand records.
Please contact Ken at 426-4949 or email him at email@example.com with any questions.
Are you looking to practice bridge in a relaxed atmosphere with others at your level and get immediate expert advice on bidding, play and defense? The SCBC has created "Expert At Your Elbow" sessions on Friday mornings starting at 10A for players with less than 10MPs to fulfill this need. The cost is $8 and includes salad and snacks. In January these sessions were drawing 10 or more players. To quote one of the attendees, "I love these sessions!" Come and join them to practice and get excellent guidance and advice. You don't need a partner, just show up!
Please contact Ken at (831) 600-6184 for questions.
The 2019 Rising Stars Sectional, Saturday and Sunday March 9 & 10 , is open to all players with less than 500 master points. The tournament is at the Mid-County Senior Center in Capitola. Here's a map. This fun tournament is organized for newer players; even those who have never played in a sectional before will find games at their level.
Co-Chairs Carol Cowen and Gina Brown have put together another great tournament. There will be terrific snacks and desserts besides an enjoyable tournament experience. The games start at 10A on Saturday and Sunday; The flyer with the complete game schedule and times may be accessed on our website by clicking here.
If you need a partner for pairs or players for your Swiss team, contact John Wesolowski via email or call him at (831) 332-4498.
It's never too early to ask your favorite Pro or Mentor to play in the upcoming pro-am/mentor-mentee game, Tuesday, March 19. It will start with a potluck at 6PM, provided by the Am players. Robin will allow time after the game to discuss hands.
"Am's" (under 750 points): You may play with your regular Tuesday Am, another Am, a "Pro" you have asked, or Robin will do her best to set you up with a "Pro" for the evening. Please sign up on the sheet provided at the SCBC. If you have any questions, e-mail Robin at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the bridge center at 465-1102.
"Pro's": Please sign up at the SCBC if you are willing to share your expertise.
