We have just concluded another successful sectional. Our efforts were well received by visitors and Unit 550 members alike. While I had the honor of being the chairperson, result is equally shared with all who volunteered and contributed; a sectional tournament simply canít happen without everyone pitching in.
To the many who brought foods to share, a sincere thank you. Your offerings were plentiful, generous and tasty. Staying in the kitchen, I was treated to the guest compliments but the credit goes to all those who brought snacks and food.
The crew, including John Benich, Robert Johnson, Ken and Shirley Llacera, Gary Oing, John Wesolowski and Eric Stolzberg, who set up on Saturday morning and then packed up made it happen so smoothly you would have thought the sectional was always held at the Senior Center. John Benich also put together a team who prepared the SCBC for carpet cleaning and then set it up afterwards so no game was impacted. David and Bette Harken handled a myriad of tasks. Preparing the boards for play was accomplished by Ken Gamble and Jonni Faircrest. This is the kind of effort that makes an event come off successfully but can sometimes go unacknowledged. Thank you all!
The kitchen ran as well as it did thanks to Gary Oing. Mickís lunchtime presentation was well received. Sydney Reuben as co-chair and Laura McCab as partnership desk each doing an effective job.
We should all be proud. Let's carry this success forward to future sectionals. Tom Burke, Surfs Up Chair.
Please consider joining the Board or a committee. You do not need to be an expert player or a long-time member of Unit 550. Your ideas and enthusiasm are all that is required.
The Board deals with all aspects of running our Santa Cruz Bridge Center to create an overall bridge experience for our members that is entertaining and educational while maintaining a friendly, competitive environment. We work with Club Owners to operate and manage the SCBC facility.
Contact Ken Llacera or any member of the Board or reply to this email to put your name in for election to the 2019-2020 Board of Directors or to learn more. The deadline for accepting nominations for the official ballot is Monday, October 15th; write-in candidates and nominations from the floor on election day are also accepted. The election results will be announced during the Annual Meeting and Holiday Party on Saturday, December 1st.
Trying to teach or give advice during a game is not effective and might even be seen as a violation of ACBL rules (see Law 74.A.2, Etiquette of Word and Action: A player should carefully avoid any remark or action that might cause annoyance or embarrassment to another player or might interfere with the enjoyment of the game.)
Please, if you are sick or just feeling ill, please stay home so you don't pass it on.
Here's a couple of tips to make our game better and more pleasant for everyone:
